National song

Posted: May 11, 2010 in Uncategorized

I was going through facebook and found a fan page with 441 fans, even my sites yellgame.com or bharatbuy.com doesn’t have that many fans (combined) :) . The topic was – Vande Mataram as National Anthem of India Topic stated – India’s national anthem, Jana Gana Mana Adhinayaka, was written by Rabindranath Tagore in honor of King George V and the Queen of England when they visited India in 1919. To honor their visit Pandit Motilal Nehru had the five stanzas included. On the quest to find more, this is what i found out which supported the argument. In the original Bengali verses only those provinces that were under British rule, i.e. Punjab, Sindh,Gujarat,Maratha.. etc. were mentioned. None of the princely states were recognized which are integral parts of India now – Kashmir,Rajasthan,Andhra, Mysore or Kerala. Neither the Indian Ocean nor the Arabian Sea was included, since they were directly under Portuguese rule at that time. This is what those five stanzas mean that praises the king and the queen – 1st stanza – (Indian) People wake up remembering your good name and ask for your blessings and they sing your glories. 2nd stanza – around your throne people of all religions come and give their love and anxiously wait to hear your kind words. 3rd stanza – Praise to the King for being the charioteer, for leading the ancient travellers beyond misery. 4th stanza – Drowned in the deep ignorance and suffering, poverty stricken, unconscious country? Waiting for the wink of your eye and your mother’s (the Queen’s) true protection. 5th stanza – in your compassionate plans, the sleeping Bharat (India)will wake up. We bow down to your feet O’ Queen, and glory to Rajeshwara (the King). BUT THE TRUTH IS SOMETHING DIFFERENT The origin of this controvery gained ground when few newspapers of those time reported that the poem has been written in honour of the visiting monarch i.e King George V. The newspaper reports cited above were misguided, the confusion arising since a different song, written in Hindi by Rambhuj Chaudhary, was sung on the same occasion in praise of the monarch. To defend this controversy Tagore himself wrote: “A certain high official in His Majesty’s service, who was also my friend, had requested that I write a song of felicitation towards the Emperor. The request simply amazed me. It caused a great stir in my heart. In response to that great mental turmoil, I pronounced the victory in Jana Gana Mana of that Bhagya Vidhata [ed. God of Destiny] of India who has from age after age held steadfast the reins of India’s chariot through rise and fall, through the straight path and the curved. That Lord of Destiny, that Reader of the Collective Mind of India, that Perennial Guide, could never be George V, George VI, or any other George. Even my official friend understood this about the song. After all, even if his admiration for the crown was excessive, he was not lacking in simple common sense.” The English Translation of JANA GANA MANA Thou art the ruler of the minds of all people, Dispenser of India’s destiny. Thy name rouses the hearts of Punjab, Sind, Gujarat and Maratha, Of the Dravida and Orissa and Bengal; It echoes in the hills of the Vindhyas and Himalayas, mingles in the music of Jamuna and Ganges and is chanted by the waves of the Indian Ocean. They pray for thy blessings and sing thy praise. The saving of all people waits in thy hand, Thou dispenser of India’s destiny. Victory, victory, victory to thee. So next time when we stand in movie theather before the movie starts and hear JANA GANA MANA, let us truely understand the real meaning of our national anthem and be proud of it. JAI HIND. News Correspondent Vidhi Singh Reporting

It is a proud day for India, as Indians have done it again. We have saved the mankind from extinction.

It a cold morning here in New Delhi. The morning mist has just settled down, the sun is beginning to show its striking face. I am standing outside Rajpath Bhavan, where in few minutes the President of India is going to award Bharatbuy.com, the famous online shopping store, a coveted honour which was never thought of, the credit of “saving the world”.

I personally am not an online shopping fan, the instant shopping and quick delivery is not for me. I like to take long hours, probably whole weekend to find a single pair of shoes for me. It’s a nice way to spend my time, and not think of Vinay, my dim-witted ex-boyfriend.

Well… now getting back to the news.

Behind me there are some ardent bharatbuy.com fans waiting to jointly receive this honour. But no one has a clue how they contributed in saving the world.

One guy wearing a black “I Love BharatBuy” t-shirt came forward and started mumbling instantly “This is my favourite website, I am always online, looking at hundreds of products, you know i even earn my pocket money selling my old products that I don’t need, and these guys unlike others don’t even charge me for selling online.”

Well, I was in no mood to hear good points about the site, a single website saving the world that has got to be one of the stupidest news ever.

To go inside the story I asked renowned scientist, Doctor Iyer.

The weird black bow wearing scientist answered, “Actually its very simple”, and then he elaborated “At 20:02 on 22nd Dec 2012, the cataclysmic waves that were going to create the east-west tsunami were reversed by the magnetic field created by the quantum data inverted from the site bharatbuy.com server to the satellite as earth reached metric position of  12 degree latitude”

“Oh that was simple!” I nodded with a blank face

It felt as if I am back to college listening to advanced physics lecture, and I am an arts student.

So i told him to explain again for our viewers.

Mr. Iyer again stated “To speak in simple words, at the same time 12.5 million people logged in to bharatbuy.com that created a strong signal in the satellite which became an opposite charge to the tsunami and thus the wave superseded. So simple”

Again he said so simple. Why do they send an arts student to cover such stories. My foolish News Channel.

The black 8 door limousine car carrying the owners of Bharatbuy.com has just arrived, which has stirred the media frenzy.

I will keep you posted on what happens next.

In the meanwhile you can visit Bharatbuy.com, it is one of the biggest shopping store, offering Multiple Product Range, Special One Day One Deals, and Free Used product classifieds filled by BharatBuy users, Wish List to make you keep track of the products you love. And much more.

P.s. – Due to heavy usage on Dec 22 the website is currently down, till then let us enjoy the award ceremony.

Indian payment gateway really needs to improve by miles, but in the current stage an online portal has 2 options:

1) Go with the banks (HDFC, ICICI)

They charge from 2% to even 5 or 6% based upon how much you are willing to spend.

But be ready to serve them with number of painful documents, and in some cases you might also be asked to place in a fixed deposit in the bank ranging from 1 to 5 lakhs.

Positives -

Comparatively better customer service,

Relatively quick transfer of funds to your account

Lesser per transaction cost (This also depends on your negotiations with the bank)

Negatives -

Lots of documentation and a lengthy process

Increase in investment due to requirement of fixed deposit (in some cases)

In some cases banks offer relatively lesser avenues of payments (like no option is available for payment through mobile, certain banks debt card and internet banking)

2) 3rd party vendors (Timeofmoney, CCAvenue)

Their per transaction fee ranges from 3.5% – 7% while the cost of procurement of the service will range from 7,000 to about 40,000.

Positives -

Quick process, not as many documents or fixed deposits required

Large avenues for funds transfer available, as these vendors have tied up with number of banks.

Negatives –

Poor customer service

Long lag period in transferring of funds to your account (ranging from 1 to 2 weeks)

Higher per transaction cost

PayPal currently is not an option for the Indian vendors any more, as the USD funds are not permitted to be transferred in Indian currency.

So make a wise decision considering all the pros and cons.

The obsession of MBA

Posted: February 27, 2010 in Uncategorized

1.      Indians are famous about being obsessed by one profession or another. Earlier it was IAS, doctor, lawyer, engineer, currently it is MBA. Well considering the chronological events i think this MBA fascination will also fade soon.

For me MBA is done by 2 types of people,

A – These are the majority, who want a good life, nice salary so that they can buy a good house and afford the EMI’s, get a nice wife or husband (probably a handsome dowry in case of few), nice position in the company with subordinates and possibly getting a window office in the future.

B – People for whom MBA schools are the place to understand actual business, learn the tricks, empower yourself in becoming the Ambani’s and TATA’s of the world.

To talk about MBA for me personally and Type B people like me, it is the most overrated degree in the world. Not much practical knowledge imparted, just analysing past events and prodding the success and running down the failure.

I believe much more can be learnt by someone if he or she puts in that money to start their new venture. Trust me, i have done both, so i know.

It’s like if you want to swim, why sit by the shore for two years and then probably lose the zeal to swim.

If you want to start your own business, start it don’t waste the money and 2 years of your life just to get a degree. Off course you will make lots of mistakes, well who hasn’t.

And for the Type A kind, i believe one should treat it as an investment, and make a wise decision. Considering job market is getting filled with MBA, with large supply leading to drop in salaries.
